    Revolutionary compound based on the latest findings on polymer and other raw material research. Exclusively produced in Continental's German factory in Korbach.

    Thanks to breakthroughs in mixing technology, newly developed synthetic rubbers were refined with natural rubber, and the use of special nanometric carbon soot particles.

    Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have:
    • 26 % less rolling resistance
    • a 30 % higher friction value (grip)
    • a 5 % increase in mileage.

    First developped in 2005, BlackChili technology never stands still as it is continuously developed and tailored to the individual applications of new Continental tyres as they continue to be produced out of the Korbach factory. Whether on the road or mountain bike, speed and grip advantages are very noticeable.

    VECTRAN BREAKER

    Vectran™ is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran™ is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is spun from the melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk like Vectran™ has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight: Exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bicycle tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran™ Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance.

Here is the new Continental Grand Prix 5000, worthy replacement of the Grand Prix 4000S II which seduced the most demanding cyclists thus becoming the reference of the reliable and competitive tyre.


High level of performances


With the Grand Prix 5000, Continental consolidates its acquired strenghts with a 3 x 110 tpi casing and the famous antipuncture layer Vectran Breaker. Wanting to propose a real evolution, Continental provided this tyre with the Black Chili rubber that has a new compound for even more performances.


Improved comfort compared to the 4000 S II


Also relying on comfort, the Grand Prix 5000 has the new Active Comfort technology. This is present as an elastomer which allows to absorb the vibration for maximum comfort.


Excellent grip on dry and wet terrain


Continental also gave the Grand prix 5000 the nex sculpture Lazer Grip technology. This allows the tyre to provide good grip starting from the first turns. It has a great impact on the penetration of the tyre in the air thus improving its aerodynamic.


Main evolutions Grand Prix 5000 / Grand Prix 4000 S II

• In the 25 mm version, the Grand Prix 5000 is 10 g lighter than the road bike Continental grand Prix 4000 S2 tyre
• energy efficiency is improved by 12%
• The resistance to punctures is now higher by 20%.
